COMMUNITY SERVICES
JP HAWC operates a program that works with
marginalized men and women who are unable to live independently. Staff interview and assess every client to determine
their barriers to independence.
Staff proceed to work with clients:
• In overcoming additions
• To heal physically, mentally and spiritually
• to put together a short term plan
• To find employment and transportation
• to find housing
Next, staff help clients to prepare budgets and plans and to implement these. Staff also link clients with other
agencies to ensure all clients are accessing every resource available to them. Follow-up is done on a regular basis
depending on client needs and to minimize client regression.
The program provides a number of services
to accomplish its objective:
These include
• Food. Many of the clients are very hungry and need to eat before they can cope with other problems.
• Staff counselling to help clients face their needs and start a plan
• Advocating for and with the client to landlords, employers and social agencies
• Staff support and follow-up to try and ensure client success
ANCILLARY SERVICES
• Computers for job and housing searches,
resumé writing and budgeting (often with staff help), contacting family and friends.
• Showers for clients to clean up.
• Laundry and storage facilities
• Health clinics provided by public health nurses
• Narcotics Anonymous meetings
• Alcoholics Anonymous meetings |
